Five steps, start to finish — including what actually differs from a resident application.

Direct answer: Get quotes, submit NRI-specific KYC, complete a remote tele-medical exam if required, pay the first premium from an NRE/NRO/foreign currency account, receive the policy. Five steps, no physical visit to India required for most applicants.

The 5 Steps

  1. Get quotes — online directly or through a platform; confirm the insurer accepts applicants from your specific country of residence
  2. Submit KYC — PAN, passport, overseas address proof, income documentation, in addition to standard requirements
  3. Complete medical underwriting — remote tele-medical exams now commonly available for cover up to several crore rupees
  4. Pay the first premium — must come from an NRE, NRO, or foreign currency account; renewal payments are sometimes more flexible
  5. Policy issuance — once underwriting clears and payment is confirmed, issued the same way as a resident policy
